You have so many good reasons to keep your teeth and gums healthy for a sparkling smile and be able to chew for good nutrition, avoid toothache and discomfort. New research suggests gum diseases can lead to other problems in the body, including increased risk of heart disease.

1.     A Slice of Garlic

Conventional wisdom has suggested garlic as a natural antibiotic for centuries and it still is considered a powerful antibacterial due to the presence of a compound called “allicin”. Just crush or cut and apply on the tooth or teeth where there is pain to minimize aggression and reduce inflammation. Garlic is one of the most effective treatments for relieving toothache. You can mix some coarse salt with crushed garlic and apply this mixture on the area that hurts. Chewing a clove of garlic daily in the morning will help you maintain strong and healthy teeth, but you probably need a natural mouthwash to remove the odor.

2.     Onion

Research has shown onions have antibacterial components, which can be helpful in treating dental problems. Eat an onion every day, as chewing it protects against various dental problems, but you must do it for three minutes (to kill germs in the mouth). If you have a toothache, you can place a small piece of onion in the affected area of the teeth or gums to deal with the pain.

Remember, onion and garlic are among the best natural antibiotics and loaded with antibacterial properties. The pain can be relieved by placing a small piece of onion on the affected tooth or gum. 3.     Clove

The salt will eliminate bacteria and reduce inflammation. You can also prevent tooth decay and tooth loss, plaque formation, tooth pain and bleeding gums with regular use of salt-water.

5.     Baking Soda

Baking soda is often recommended for whitening your teeth, as it is a natural de-scaling agent. Baking soda has mild abrasive properties that reduce plaque and smoothen the tooth enamel. It also cleans the mouth and prevents tooth decay. Just soak your toothbrush in water and then sprinkle a pinch of baking soda on it. If desired, you can also use it over toothpaste.


To make good use of sodium bicarbonate, however, certain precautions must be taken:

  • Never use this method more than 2 times a week.
