Recently some researchers came up with a diet known as MIND (Mediterranean-DASH Intervention for Neurodegenerative Delay), a diet to battle the symptoms of Alzheimer’s. The Mediterranean diet also reduces the risk of cardiovascular diseases and hypertension.

According to a study featured in the Journal of Alzheimer’s and Dementia, 53 percent of participants who followed the MIND diet showed reduced risk of Alzheimer’s and Dementia.

The MIND diet consists of daily intake of fish and almost four servings of fruits and vegetables. Leafy green vegetables, poultry, beans, fruits, olive oil, fish, wine, and whole grains, which are healthy for the brain, whereas high caloric foods like cheese, sweets, and margarine, are unhealthy for the brain and their consumption is significantly reduced.

The MIND diet highlights the importance of an intake of different types of berries as they are rich in antioxidants, helping to boost brain health and enhance its functionality. The MIND diet is super easy to follow and focuses mainly on 15 dietary components, five harmful food groups and ten food groups essential for brain health and vitality.

The diet emphasizes that individuals should not over-consume food that is unhealthy for the brain, especially foods rich in fat and calorie count. There are no disadvantages of incorporating the MIND diet and everyone should try it to improve their cognitive functionality.

In an experiment, researchers observed that people who incorporated the MIND diet for the longest time showed maximum prevention from Alzheimer’s. This is because the diet actually comprises of super healthy foods, which you should try to eat everyday as it is not only healthy for the brain, but for your overall health.
In another experiment, scientists assessed the diets of 923 residents of Chicago based on a questionnaire. The volunteers were aged were chosen from an age group of 58-98. They were tracked and evaluated for almost an average of 4.5 years. They were also tested psychologically to determine their cognitive functionality and to determine whether or not they have developed the symptoms of Alzheimer’s.

Researchers observed that those who stuck to the MIND diet religiously showed a 50 percent decrease in the symptoms of Alzheimer’s, and those who reasonably practiced the diet showed a 35 percent decrease in the pace of Alzheimer’s symptoms.

This research established that people who consumed a healthy diet with lots of greens, fruits and fish lowered the risk of Alzheimer’s. That is primarily because of the fact that their diet was rich in all the essential nutrients required by the body.
